A memorable collection of American Quilts

The TRC Leiden, Holland, hosts from the 5th February to the 27th August 2020 an exhibition introducing the American Quilt history. This foundation was created in 1991 with the aim to study textiles, clothing and accessories.

It is thanks to a generous donation of feedsacks, including quilts, that the idea of an exhibition was borned. The feedsacks, cotton bags made to transport goods, marked the 1930’s and 1940’s in the United States and are the subject of a detailed and illustrated in the #138 issue of our Quiltmania magazine. They sparked the curiosity of the Director of the TRC, Dr. Gillian Vogelsang-Eastwood, who decided to enrich the collection and dedicate a remarkable historical exhibition. We can discover blocks, patterns, quilting tools but also some sumptuous creations from the 1840’s to the 1970’s that will delight the passionates and enchant the amateurs.
