“In 2019 and again in 2020, I used the online “100 day project” as motivation to make a small appliqué block a day, some of which I shared on Instagram along the way. My “Daily Dose of Appliqué” quilts are the result. Each year I had parameters of the background fabric (suiting samples in 2019 and shot cottons in 2020) and appliqué fabric (Liberty Tana Lawns in 2019 and Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics in 2020). The suiting samples I used in 2019 dictated the 4” (10 cm) finished size blocks. Beyond those parameters, I let my imagination loose and used a range of techniques, shapes and processes to design the blocks drawing inspiration from traditional quilt blocks, nature, geometric forms, hand drawn improv shapes and the appliqué fabric itself.
There are a few differences between the years, and the pattern contains both options. I designed different quilt layouts in each year: the Breeze block walls popular in the 60s inspired the layout for 2019 and string piecing and the quarter log cabin form created line and form for the blocks to shine in 2020. This pattern contains instructions for both quilt layouts.
Please read through the pattern before starting to make your quilt. I hope you enjoy making the blocks – I certainly did!“
