The convivial story of a wonderful medallion quilt

When the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association (United States) talked to us about its 2020 Opportunity Quilt “Out of the Blue, Serenity!”, we couldn’t resist sharing it with you !

Every year, the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association creates an Opportunity Quilt. It is a project that always brings nice sharing moments as it engages many member of the guild in order to create the quilt from scratch. When finished, the quilt is the subject to a raffle aimed at raising funds for the association.

In July 2019, the organizer, Joyce Tachner, and her team of gifted quilters gathered around 72 beautifully made blocks in shades of blue and white offered to the association by a generous unknown donor. These blocks provided the foundation for their new Opportunity Quilt project. To emphasize the blocks, they took inspiration from a pattern designed by Janine Alers featured in QUILTMANIA magazine of May/June 2017.

For months the members worked together to elaborate the medallion and harmoniously assemble the blocks. This long-winding project required meticulous organization since diverse methods (applique, paper-piecing patterns, etc.) were employed. One thing is certain, everyone brought their own touch ! Almost one year later, the Opportunity Quilt is achieved and the result is splendid ! No one wants to let it go ! To learn more about the project: read the complete article.
For the most curious, don’t hesitate to visit the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association website to see their former Opportunity Quilt projects and its Facebook page.
