The European Patchwork Meeting in Sainte Marie aux Mines gave us the opportunity this past autumn to visit our friend Alix Rafner and her husband Jean, in their pretty little house located on the edge of a forest near to the heights of the town.
In the middle of fi r trees and greenery, Alix can sew at leisure, enjoying these charming surroundings.
Alix kept the family’s antique furniture, hand-painted with designs typical of Alsatian folklore.
Each room of the house contains treasures by local artisans such as the famous cuckoo clocks that Jean methodically resets every morning and that sing at every hour of the day!
Vintage embroidery pieces, a stoneware collection, Alsatian Kelsch fabrics that she gladly uses in some of her creations; undoubtedly we are in Alsace!
