Opening of the Quilt Museum and Gallery, the national headquarters of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles and its world-famous Heritage Collection (some 600 quilts, miniature pieces, quilted clothing, tools and equipment).
Quilts in Time: Journey from Bed to Wall. Inaugural exhibition guest curated by Helen Joseph. Around two-thirds of the quilts on display in the opening exhibition will be from the Guild’s own Collection while the remainder of items on show will be borrowed from contemporary quiltmakers including artists like Pauline Burbidge.

Museum visitors will find the flowers that inspired the artists’ quilts planted throughout the museum’s 45 acres.

Quilt Mania II. 18 Dallas cultural area institutions join forces to organise the largest collaborative exhibition of quilts. More than 300 quilts from all over the world will be exhibited during the six months event. Each institution will feature works based on their mission and all the quilts will be compared and contrasted across the exhibitions.
The18 participating institutions include: African American Museum; Arlington Museum of Art, Art Centre of Plano, Cavanaugh Flight Museum, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Heritage Village, Dallas Historical Society, Farmers Branch Historical Park, Historic Mesquite Inc., Ice House Cultural Center, International Museum of Cultures, Irving Arts Center, Latino Cultural Center, Mesquite Arts Center, Museum of Nature and Science, Old Red Courthouse, The South Dallas Cultural Center, The Women’s Museum: An Institute for the Future.
Special events will be offered at each of the institutions, designed around the theme of quilts featured. Additionally, Quilt Crawls, which are day-long bus trips to six of the exhibitions, are scheduled for November 8th, 2008, January 24th, 2009 and February 28th, 2009. A different set of six museums will be toured on each Quilt Crawl. A quilt history weekend for out of town visitors is planned for March 6th – 8th, 2009 during which participants will be picked up at DFW and tour 11 of the exhibitions plus enjoy additional quilt related activities.
